Kolkata Police has issued a comprehensive traffic notification ahead of Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakra Eid) scheduled for June 7, depending on moon sighting. Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Verma signed the notification under various provisions of the MV Act, Calcutta Police Act, and West Bengal Traffic Regulations Act, outlining vehicle restrictions to manage large gatherings across the city.
Movement of all heavy and medium goods vehicles—except those transporting LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum, oxygen, vegetables, medicines, fruits, fish, and milk—will be prohibited across Kolkata Police jurisdiction from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm. For the Kolkata Dock System, these vehicle categories will be denied entry from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Light goods vehicles (LGVs), excluding those for the Dock System, will not be allowed from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm and again from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In addition, LGV movement on specific roads such as Garden Reach Road, Akra Road, Railway Line Road, Dr. A K Road, and Paharpur Road will be restricted from 4:00 am to 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Red Road, which hosts the primary Eid congregation, will remain fully closed to all vehicular movement from 10:00 pm on June 6 until 12:00 pm on June 7 or until the program concludes. Multiple roads will also be closed or diverted during this period, including Manicktala Main Road, APC Roy Road, MG Road, Narkeldanga Main Road, and Raja Dinendra Street, among others.
Major disruptions and diversions will also be enforced in areas such as Khidderpore, Ekbalpore, CGR Road, Mominpore, Garden Reach, Beliaghata, Topsia, and Tollygunge. Several bridges including Convent Bridge and Beliaghata Railway Bridge will be closed. Tram services will be temporarily suspended on Lenin Sarani between Esplanade and R.A. Kidwai Road as soon as public presence increases.
The Esplanade Bus Stand will continue to operate, but entry will be via New Road and Dufferin Road with exits through RR Avenue and Tram Tracks to separate pedestrian and vehicle movements. Traffic police will implement dynamic diversions from arterial and feeder roads as necessary. These orders will be in force in addition to regular day-specific restrictions.
